Club Overview

Overview

Grammar Juniors Rugby Football Club organises rugby for children from pre-school up to Under 13 grade. All teams are weight restricted which means children play against others of a similar weight.  Children aged Under 7 begin by playing non tackle Rippa Rugby.  Tackle rugby commences from the Under 8 grade.

Our Clubrooms are situated at Shore Road Reserve, Remuera.  The club relies on the work of volunteers to ensure the success of each rugby season.  There are many ways that you can become involved and assist.  Please get in touch to discuss these further:  grammarjuniorsrugby@gmail.com

Grammar Juniors Rugby Football Club was founded in 1996, when Grammar Old Boys (originally in Ayr St location) merged with Carlton Rugby Club and moved to Cornwall Park.  Grammar Juniors chose to stay at it’s Shore Road Reserve home, and to focus on fostering junior rugby within the local community.

As a club we pride ourselves on balancing the desire for players to have fun, with the need to provide skill development and additional platforms for competition.

Grammar Juniors is the “best little rugby club in New Zealand.”

Clubrooms & Field layout

Grammar Juniors Rugby Club has clubrooms at Shore Road, Remuera. These are shared with Parnell Cricket Club, who use the rooms during the summer season.

A private trust (the Remuera Parnell Sports Community Charitable Trust – RPSCCT) has been set up to oversee and maintain the club’s Shore Road premises which now include a fantastic indoor sports training facility. The rugby club has three representatives on the Trust board – Vaughan Smidt (Club Captain), Anna Tierney and Jeremy Livingston (previous Club Captain).

Grammar Juniors have access to two newly renovated rugby fields at the Shore Road Reserve. The No. 1 ground is the ground nearest the clubhouse, the newly realigned No.2 ground is the far field nearest the cricket nets. Both grounds have floodlights.

The Council will erect “Grounds Closed” signs when the fields are closed. Please DO NOT use the grounds when these signs are up. Any misuse or abuse of the grounds during the rugby season means that Grammar Juniors priority use of these grounds may be compromised.

To check if the fields have been closed by the Council due to poor weather, please check their website and enter Shore Road Reserve as the park name:

Parking

Numerous car parks are available around the Shore Road grounds.  However these do get busy on training nights as well as Saturday mornings. Children are constantly in and around the car parking areas so please take extra care to look out for them.

Please do not park across the chains at the access points onto the playing fields as this blocks access if required for ambulances. If the grass park area is open, PLEASE park sensibly and leave enough space for people to get in and out easily.

Club Uniform

An official club jersey (Colours – navy and gold – new design in 2016) is supplied to each player at the beginning of the season, for use during the season. Coaches will distribute the jerseys, which are individually numbered inside the collar and allocated to each player. Jerseys are to be returned to the club at the end of the season.  All Grammar Juniors rugby jerseys are the property of Grammar Juniors Rugby Football Club. They are a major club asset so please treat them with care.
